year end, Washington Midget Racing Association, 1962

Race report with a big photo of a mob of midgets heading out of a turn. Vancouver racer Bill Hall in No. 66, Oregon's Palmer Crowell in the Gordon Reelie No. 75 and a car numbered C3, which would seem to be a Canadian car. The driver identified in the C3, Jerry Watts, is from the U.S.

Reelie took the "Canadian title". Not sure what that means. Highest owner points for a Canadian? Car won a couple races in Canada? Reelie got his first WMRA points title in 1973, with Palmer Crowell at the wheel.

Rea Lentz and the Romano, some more from 1915

My research in the P-I stops before the big Tacoma AAA race. The microfilm at UBC waves to me from across town. Someday more will be found....

In the meantime records, possibly world records, were said to have been set at Madison Park in Seattle.

some more about Ray Lentz, 1915

The driver and car were the hot combination on the northwest dirt tracks.

while there might have been money to win...

...most of the 385 entries must have been doing the enduro for love.

Or craziness.

adding a couple non-racing blog links

Over on the side are a couple non-racing blogs I've added. Both have much to do with the Vancouver area. One is Red Robinson's, the iconic radio jock; and the other is Mr. Beer N. Hockey's. Two sides of a similar coin. Parental guidance might be needed for one of them, not sure which though.

okay some rock, from Aldergrove Beach

Some build up to the event. And the "establishment" view of the happening.

Funny, I grew up not too far from Aldergrove Beach, but never went there. We had a couple gravel pits that flooded. Those were our swimming holes.

Racing info from an advertisement

Probably not the first, and definitely not the last dealership to buy some advertising space and include racing info. Especially if it looks favourably on their product.

Brasso Datsun. (Jeez, I just bought a newer Nissan a couple days ago. Win in 1969, sell in 2011. Although I don't think Brasso has any dealerships left in the lower mainland.)

Some promotion for a CAMRA race.

Interview with Ralph Monhay and Bob Morgan for a May 1969 CAMRA race. Unfortunately it got rained out.

Wow, big story on Tony Morris from 1969

Just shows that research never will end. There is always something else to be found. And it doesn't necessarily mean it will be a small find. Two full pages from the Friday Leisure section of the Vancouver Sun. There's big mother lode nuggets still to be found.

Hope this is readable. I think the big files get downsized.

The Munsters

Can't find the ad I want right at the moment to prove the Munster Koach was in New Westminster back in 1967. But it was, I'm closing in on 1000 posts, so trust me.

In the meantime:

Drivers in profile, Dave Ogilvy

The old Racing Wheels disc has turned up many gems. And more will make it to this blog. I don't know much about the correspondent Sheila Moss, or her relationship to that Brit with the same last name, but she appeared regularly in the early issues.

midget mania

A couple of linked videos: the first dealing with the little "spindizzies"; the second the bigger midgets (if that's not an oxymoron...) and dry lake speedsters.

Mission made it to TNN's old show NHRA Today, with Bob Frey at the track. I believe Bob is now the track announcer at all NHRA major events.
